The Corvair
The Corvair
Solid Body
Description:
This car-themed guitar was built as a gift for my big brother to celebrate his 60th birthday. It was inspired by his favorite car from his high school years, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair (as Ralph Nader famously said, it was “unsafe at any speed”). The “Corvair” insignia is the original one from my brother’s car (removed after it was totaled in an accident, … see Nader quote above). The body was painted at our local auto body shop Runway Auto with paint to match the car’s original Chevy Lemonwood Yellow color. The volume and tone knobs are from a 1965 Chevy radio, and the guitar was delivered with a seat belt guitar strap.
Materials:
The body is Poplar, the neck is Maple, and the fingerboard is Ebony.
